The Message Management Report (MMR) is a reporting tool that is enabled with the Message Tracking Filter (MTF). The Message Management Report is an easy way to search the database file that the MTF uses to track all messages that cross your server.
In order to access the Message Management Report you must point your web browser to http://<IP of the server>/scripts/mtf_report.exe.
Message Management Report page
The Message Management Report shows a summary of all of the messages logged in the database. It displays the total number of messages sent across the server today as well as the average size of all of those messages.
Note: The Message Management Report does not track system generated messages such as warnings and bounces generated by SLmail.
The Message Management Report also allows you an easy interface to search the database files for certain messages or groups of messages. You can search using as much or as little criteria as you would like. All of the criteria is cumulative, that is, if there is search criteria present in more than one section, the search must be true for all areas to return a message. You can make the search as broad (search for all messages last month) or as narrow (search for all messages from user1@domain.com to user2@domain.com containing blah and foo in the subject line that were sent over the server on 1/21/2001 ) as you would like.
If you would like add new search criteria, click the Clear button to clear all of the fields.
Use the text boxes provided to search for messages from or to a user. You can search for a complete email address, username, domain, or any part of these. The use of the wildcard ( * ) can broaden the search. For example. if you are looking for all messages sent to a particular domain, enter *@domain* .
For example if you enter user1@domain1.com in the FROM text box and user2@domain2.com in the TO text box your results will differ depending on the qualifier that you select.
If Both is selected, the search results will only display the messages that meet both of the criteria. That is, all of the messages sent from user1@domain1.com to user2@domain2.com.
If Either is selected, the search results will display all of the messages sent from user1@domain1.com AND all of the messages sent to user2@domain2.com.
Note: If the text boxes are left blank and Either is selected the search will display ALL of the messages in the database. The same will happen if one of the text boxes is left blank and Both is selected.
Use the text box provided to enter search criteria (keywords) for the subject line of email messages in the database. You can search for multiple keywords. Each entry must be separated by a single space in the text box. If you want to search for a string of words, enclose the phrase in quotation marks (double quotes).
Note: Wildcards are not allowed in the Subject search.
Note: The Subject searches are case insensitive.
If All Words is selected the search must match all of the entries in the text box to produce a summary. If Any Words is selected the search will produce results for a match of any of the entries in the field.
Date searches can be done over a set amount of time (Last Week, Last Month) or over a specified amount of time.
To search for all of the messages during the past week or month select the appropriate option and leave the From and To text boxes blank.
Note: Last Week is the previous week from Sunday through Saturday, Last Month is the last full calendar month.
If you would like to search over a certain period of time use the text boxes provided to enter a range of dates to search and then select the Selected Range option. Dates can be entered in mm/dd/yyyy or yyyy/mm/dd format.
Note: If the From and To text boxes in the DATE RANGE section of the report are left blank and Selected Range is selected the search will display ALL of the messages in the database.
At the bottom of the Message Management Report screen you can select to show Detail and Summary or Summary Only for your search results.
