Before you install SLmail, you should first verify that the TCP/IP service is installed, configured, started, and working correctly on your system. Please refer to the previous section on SLmail Requirements for instructions on verifying that TCP/IP is installed.
In order to successfully install SLmail, you need the following information about your TCP/IP configuration and your connection to your ISP. If you do not know the answers to these questions, you should search them out prior to beginning the installation process.
You can determine this information from the Windows NT Control Panel.
Verify that Specify an IP Address is selected. (You cannot run a mail server on a system that receives its IP address from DHCP.)
Alternatively, you can determine the IP address by typing ipconfig at the command prompt.
Note: It is important to use your Internet Domain Name, not your NT domain name.
Note: If you are using SLmail only within your organization (on a local LAN, without connecting to the Internet), you do not need the last two pieces of information.
