Before Installing SLmail

Before you install SLmail, you should first verify that the TCP/IP service is installed, configured, started, and working correctly on your system. Please refer to the previous section on SLmail Requirements for instructions on verifying that TCP/IP is installed.

In order to successfully install SLmail, you need the following information about your TCP/IP configuration and your connection to your ISP. If you do not know the answers to these questions, you should search them out prior to beginning the installation process.

What is the IP address of the SLmail system?
What is the domain name of the SLmail system?

Note: It is important to use your Internet Domain Name, not your NT domain name.

What is the IP address of your Internet Service Provider's mail server?

    Get this information from your ISP

What is the IP address of your Internet Service Provider's Domain Name Server?

    Get this information from your ISP.

Note: If you are using SLmail only within your organization (on a local LAN, without connecting to the Internet), you do not need the last two pieces of information.
